McLoughlin
Captain Michael McLoughlin of Raughley had a long association with shipping at the Port. In the mid-Nineties he was employed as a Sea Pilot by the Harbour Board. He was Mate on the ill-fated 'Liverpool' and later took command of the cross-channel steamer the 'Carrickfergus', and subsequently the 'Sligo'. He took command of the 'Sligo' when she arrived in Port on her inaugural run in December, 1930. Following the liquidation of the Sligo Steam Navigation Company in 1936, he became Master of the Galway Bay tender, Dun Aengus.
Bernard McLoughlin, his brother, was Chief Sea Pilot for the grain vessels entering the Port.
